Mussoorie, 200 Years of Timeless magic’
Co-author of an award-winning documentary script
Firsts are always special.
Had a written a documentary script earlier-‘No’, did I want to ‘Yes’. When the idea to co-author a script for a documentary, was shared by a friend and fellow town dweller, journalist and author, Anmol Jain, I didn’t take a minute to say ‘Yes’.
What followed was, immersive research — hours spent poring over archives, countless phone calls, long conversations, and meetings that slowly helped shape the narrative. It was a process that demanded patience, curiosity, and care, but what emerged was a body of work I remain deeply proud to have been part of.
‘Mussoorie, 200 Years of Timeless magic’, which I co-wrote with Anmol Jain, is a short documentary film which was showcased at the 200-year celebrations of the iconic hill town.
The documentary explores the rich history and cultural heritage of Mussoorie. Through rare archival footage, interviews with local historians and residents, authors Ruskin Bond, Stephen Alter, Late Bill Aitken and dignitaries like ex GDP Uttarakhand, Mr Anil Raturi, among others, the documentary is a unique, exploration of the town's architecture, legends and literary heritage.
Together, these voices offer a layered exploration of the town’s architecture, folklore, legends, and enduring literary legacy.
More than a historical chronicle, the film is a love letter to Mussoorie — its people, its past, and its timeless charm. The journey found further affirmation when the documentary went on to win five awards across festivals, including the Roshani International Film Festival, Athvikvaruni International Film Festival, Tamizhagam International Film Festival, Kollywood International Film Festival, and Thilsri International Film Festival — a gratifying conclusion to a deeply personal first.
